Purpose of Visit: We received a complaint about our Wienie-Pak product, sized US23, involving 2 million meters. A technical visit was initiated to assess the issue on-site.

Problem:

Several issues were immediately apparent:

  • The product was overstuffed by 4 mm.
  • The stuffing machine was in poor condition.
  • The casing was over two years old, beyond its warranty period.

Process:

The visit began with frequent strand breakages. To address this, I adjusted the machinery settings, including reducing pump pressure (3.5 to 2.5 bars) and stuffing speed (600 to 470 RPM), and fine-tuned the metering pump. While these changes improved performance, the Production Manager did not approve them due to lower yield. We provided further recommendations and lent a larger stuffing tube to enhance the process.

Recommendations:

  • Add a 3 mm O-ring to the chuck to reduce vibration.
  • Use a larger stuffing tube (sized 15) to improve meat flow.
  • Reduce follower pressure from 15 to 8 psi to lessen strand stress.

Conclusion

The customer accepted our advice, cancelled the complaint, and successfully ran production with the old casing and 4 mm overstuffing without breakages. This case highlights the value of ViskoTeepak's technical support.
